First Quarterly Meeting 2020
Dear Brothers in Christ,
Our 1st Assembly of 2020 will be at Holy Trinity by the Lake, 1524 Smirl Dr, Rockwall, TX 75032, on Saturday, 7 March. Registration will start at 8 AM. The Eucharist will start at 8:30 with the breakfast following. We are delighted that Ron Greer will speak to us.
Last year two of our assembly gathering presentations emphasized understanding of and coming to grips with what we can do to fight the evil of human trafficking and human sexual abuse. The theme we are developing in 2020 is Discipleship, how can men learn to do a better job in discipling men and youth, both within our church communities as well as in our neighborhoods and social communities. Ron Greer’s presentation will start us on that journey and point us toward a very exciting theme for our 3rd quarter assembly in September which will be an all diocese men’s retreat inviting every man in the diocese to attend from Friday evening, September 25th through Saturday the 26th.
I am excited to tell you again about the Dallas Diocese All Men’s Discipleship Retreat, first announced at our Diocesan Convention in November, then again at our 4Q Assembly Meeting in December. It is supported and has been blessed by Bishop Sumner. In spreading the word we want to emphasize that it is for all men in the diocese not just the Brotherhood. We are working with Canon Father Jordan Hyldan and Canon Carrie Headington and others at the Diocese office and you will soon be getting information and regular updates.
As I reflect on my own capabilities to disciple men to come to Christ or just to grow in their experience, I have to be candid about how uncertain I often feel about those capabilities. How can I get started? How do I reach out to a brother in need? How can I help any man make the decision to come into the brotherhood of the Church and experience the same richness and closeness to our Lord Jesus Christ that I have experienced? We will have men at the retreat with deep experiences and commitments to the Gospel to help us understand how and to help us get started if we are not sure. They will teach us skills for discipleship over and above of what we think we already know.
