Rt. Rev. Dr. J. Magness To Speak at Dallas Assembly Breakfast

Rt. Rev. Dr. James Magness - Brotherhood of St. Andrew - Dallas AssemblyThe Rt. Rev. Dr. James Magness, Bishop Suffragan for Federal Ministries will be the guest speaker at breakfast at the Dallas Assembly of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew on Saturday, 11 February at 8am, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Garland, (3217 E. Guthrie Rd).

Bishop Magness was consecrated as the Bishop Suffragan for Federal Ministries (formally known as the Bishop Suffragan for the Armed Forces) on June 19, 2010 and is responsible for the pastoral care and oversight for armed forces chaplains, military personnel and their families on all posts, stations and ships at sea. He also has oversight of federal hospitals, prisons, and correctional facilities. He was recently installed by the Presiding Bishop as the first Canon to the National Cathedral representing the National Church.

Bishop Magness previously served as the Canon for Mission and Diocesan Administration in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia, as well as in parish and in diocesan ministries. Prior to that Bishop Magness served as Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Kentucky.

Bishop Magness retired from the U.S. Navy in 2003 at the rank of Captain, serving as Command Chaplain, U.S. Joint Forces Command and Fleet Chaplain, U.S. Fleet Forces Command. He was present at the Pentagon on 9/11 and ministered to many during the rescue and recovery operations that ensued.  From 1997 to 2000 he was on the Navy Chief of Chaplains’ staff as personnel manager of the Navy Chaplain Corps.

The Holy Trinity Chapter of the Brotherhood of St Andrew will host Bishop Magness’ visit, serving a breakfast beginning at 8:00am. All are welcome.
