St Andrew’s Cross, Vol I, Issue I
As you all know the Brotherhood of St Andrew is an international Christian organization organized under the Episcopal Church in the United States. Its beginning goes back to St. Andrew’s Day, 1883 at St. James Episcopal Church in Chicago. It was incorporated by the U.S. Congress and the act was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt on May 30, 1908 (hence the “Inc.” in our title). The Act of Congress states “The sole object of said corporation shall be the spread of Christ’s Kingdom.” We do this through discipleship. This is our charter.
The first issue of St. Andrew’s Cross was published in October of 1886. Seventy five hundred copies of the first Cross were mailed to every member of the clergy in the United States. A copy of this first issue can be found here and is well worth your time to read.
